Pale to medium lemon-gold, the nose is simply WOW—an absolute show-stopper, delivering vibrant, youthful lime cordial, pink grapefruit and lemon meringue pie scents followed up by suggestions of chamomile tea, saffron, cassis and nutmeg plus wafts of marzipan, crushed rocks and beeswax. The palate is beyond-belief intense, offering a myriad of decadent citrus fruit preserves and earthy/mineral-inspired nuances, instilling incredible depth, all punctuated by profound freshness and finishing epically long and exquisitely delicious. The alcohol this vintage is 13.6%, while the residual sugar is a whopping 150 grams per liter, beautifully balanced by a total acidity of 4.5 grams per liter of H2SO4. Obviously, the longer readers are willing to cellar this, the more they will get of that ethereal tertiary complexity/experience. This said, for those who love great Sauternes in its youthful/primary flushes, even at this very early stage in its evolution, the multifaceted 2001 d'Yquem will not disappoint. Issue 244 End of August 2019, The Wine Advocate, 31 Aug 2019, Lisa Perrotti-Brown
A slightly riper and markedly spicier nose is comprised by notes of plum, dark currant, herbal tea and floral wisps, especially violet. The delicious and velvet-textured medium weight flavors coat the palate with sappy dry extract that also buffers the moderately firm tannins shaping the nicely persistent, balanced and complex finale. This is a lovely Vosne villages and worth considering. Jan 10, 2024, Allen Meadows' (Burghound.com)
Dark berry fruit coulis scents combine with those of spice, violet, lavender and a very discreet hint of wood. The sleek, delicious and caressing medium weight flavors possess a lovely sense of underlying tension before culminating in a dusty, stony and youthfully austere finale. This is a really lovely Chambolle villages and well worth your interest. Jan 10, 2022, Allen Meadows' (Burghound.com)
Super-fresh if decidedly cool aromas include those of wild cherry, currant, forest floor and humus. The delicious medium-bodied flavors possess excellent verve as well as fine depth and persistence on the mildly austere but not especially rustic finale. This is also very good for its level. Jan 10, 2023, Allen Meadows' (Burghound.com)
Here the nose is so spicy that blind, it could pass for a Vosne 1er with its aromas of exotic tea, plum and dark berries. The rich, concentrated and solidly powerful medium-bodied flavors terminate in a robust and muscular finish that delivers excellent persistence. This moderately austere effort is going to require at least some patience. Jan 10, 2023, Allen Meadows' (Burghound.com)
Once again, the airy and expressive nose of more deeply pitched aromas is red and dark currant, violet and soft earth is ultra-fresh. The richer and more concentrated if less refined and mineral-driven flavors also possess very good delineation on the dusty, compact and sneaky long finale. This is also very good and worth considering. Jan 10, 2023, Allen Meadows' (Burghound.com)
A more restrained and more elegant nose features cool and airy aromas of mostly dark berries that are laced with floral and spice nuances, especially violet and rose petal. There is again excellent volume to the intense and appealingly textured medium weight flavors that brim with both minerality and dry extract that buffers the moderately firm and strikingly long finale. This is potentially terrific. Jan 10, 2022, Allen Meadows' (Burghound.com)
A pretty and perfumed nose offers up notes of red and dark currant, violet, lavender and a whiff of anise. The notably finer medium weight flavors possess both good detail and a subtle salinity that adds a sense of refreshment to the mildly rustic if persistent finale. Jan 10, 2021, Allen Meadows' (Burghound.com)
A markedly floral-suffused nose that is equally cool and restrained grudgingly displays notes of both red and black currant along with smoky spice wisps. The more elegant and polished middle weight flavors don't possess the same muscle or power, but the lilting and refined texture is highly seductive, all wrapped in stony, wonderfully complex and beautifully well-balanced finale. This is terrific and while the mouthfeel is certainly very refined, the fine but dense tannins will ensure a long life. Textbook CSD. Jan 10, 2021, Allen Meadows' (Burghound.com)
A ripe, spicy and fresh nose is comprised by notes of cassis, black cherry and floral top notes. The middle weight flavors are rich to the point of opulence while offering equally good length if not the same robust power on the balanced and slightly less structured finale. This too is one to consider. Jan 10, 2021, Allan Meadow's (Burghound.com)
A ripe and nicely fresh nose combines notes of both red and dark currant along with spice and violet hints. The sleek, intense and detailed middle weight flavors culminate in a moderately complex and lingering finish where a touch of youthful austerity slowly emerges. Jan 10, 2021, Allen Meadows' (Burghound.com)
A slightly more deeply pitched nose features notes of poached plum, dark raspberry and newly turned earth. There is very good power to the medium-bodied flavors that conclude in a dusty, delicious and nicely complex finish that flashes a bit of rusticity. A quality villages. Jan 10, 2021, Allen Meadows' (Burghound.com)
Here too there is good freshness to the slightly more complex nose that reveals notes of various red berries, new turned earth and a pretty floral hint. There is fine intensity to the solidly dense and relatively powerful medium-bodied flavors that also culminate in a firm, dusty and grippy but not really drying finish where the tannins are slightly riper. Jan 10, 2020, Allen Meadows' (Burghound.com)
Here too there is a beautiful range of spice elements adding interest to the cool, pure and airy aromas of cassis, dark raspberry, lavender, violet and rose petal. Once again the mouthfeel of the middle weight flavors is super-sleek, indeed the word satiny comes to mind. I very much like the sense of underlying energy along with the almost pungent minerality that emerges on the impeccably well-balanced and sneaky long finish. This is Zen-like. Jan 10, 2019, Allen Meadows' (Burghound.com)
An openly exotic nose offers glimpses of black cherry liqueur, ginger, Asian-style tea, sandalwood and orange peel along with plenty of floral elements. The tighter and much more mineral-driven big-bodied flavors also possess evident muscle on the powerful and dense yet beautifully refined finish that goes on and on. This is also a bit less structured though with that said, this is going to need at least 15 years to reach its apogee. In sum, this is relatively refined though still a very serious wine. Jan 10, 2020, Allen Meadows' (Burghound.com)
Subtle but not invisible wood nuances set off the spicy red and dark currant scents. The very supple, fleshy and seductively textured middle weight flavors aren't especially complex either and here it's less clear that more depth will develop as the mid-palate, while not dilute, isn't dense. In sum, this is certainly pretty but it's not deep. Jan 10, 2019, Allen Meadow's (Burghound.com)
A cool and relatively airy nose exhibits mostly red berry fruit aromas with background hints of herbal tea, rose petal and earth. There is fine punch and lovely detail to the relatively robust flavors that culminate in a lingering and youthfully austere finish. This is a quality Morey villages that will need 7 to 10 years to arrive at its peak. Jan 10, 2019, Allen Meadows (Burghound.com)
This is still carrying lactic aromas from the malo though there is excellent richness to the fleshy and plump flavors that terminate in a persistent if slightly warm finish. Jun 11, 2017, Allen Meadow's (Burghound.com)
Reductive and wood aromas presently dominate the nose. Otherwise here too there is excellent volume to the succulent yet quite serious medium weight plus flavors that exhibit more evident minerality on the energetic, precise and youthfully austere finale. In contrast to the Vaucrains, this excellent effort is likely to require most of my predicted aging curve before it is accessible. Jan 15, 2017, Allen Meadow's (Burghound.com)
A very ripe yet still agreeably fresh nose features liqueur-like aromas of red berries, spice, lilac and earth. The lush, even opulent flavors possess excellent volume as well as evident minerality that can also be found on the moderately austere finish where the stems used in the vinification can be detected. Jan 15, 2017, Allen Meadows' (Burghound.com)
An agreeably fresh nose consists of notes of earth and dark berry fruit scents. There is good energy and precision to the suave middle weight flavors that terminate in a finish that displays hints of wood and bitter cherry. This supple effort should reward a few years of cellaring but also be approachable young with pleasure. Jan 15, 2016, Allen Meadow's (Burghound.com)
The wood treatment presently all but dominates the very ripe and markedly spicy plum liqueur and earth scented-nose. The velvety and seductively textured flavors are extremely ripe, indeed there is a subtle chocolate element that can be found on the almost soft mid-palate though the finish does tighten up quickly. This is an odd wine in that the wood treatment sweetens the finish and the chocolate element isn't what one expects from grand cru Gevrey yet despite all of these aspects that don't appeal to me, this seems to somehow work anyway. As a consequence my projected range offers the benefit of the doubt that this will somehow come together in time. Apr 15, 2016, Allen Meadow's (Burghound.com)
Here the nose is slightly riper than that of the Beaux Monts but otherwise largely similar. There is a bit more volume if less minerality to the generously proportioned medium-bodied flavors that possess plenty of structure-buffering dry extract, all wrapped in a highly persistent and better balanced finale. Textbook Suchots that should amply reward 7 to 10 years of cellar time. Jan 15, 2015, Allen Meadow's (Burghound.com)
A discreetly floral red berry fruit nose is also composed of a variety of other seemingly evanescent nuances that include wet stone, forest floor, rose petal, sauvage hints and damp earth. This impressive complexity is continued by the rich, intense and driving broad-shouldered flavors that are an exercise in restraint, all wrapped in a balanced, austere and incredibly persistent finish. This is one intense and muscular effort yet all of the size and weight manifests itself harmoniously, indeed there is absolutely nothing rustic about this. In a word, wonderful. Apr 01, 2012, Allen Meadow's (Burghound.com)
This is also unusually expressive at this early stage with wonderfully layered aromas of floral nuances, raspberry, cherry, plum, stone and earth. There is excellent volume and richness to the strikingly well-detailed medium-bodied flavors that ooze a fine minerality on the refined, mouth coating and explosively long finish. This faultlessly well-balanced wine should age for years if desired though be approachable after a decade. Be sure to decant this as the gas is apparent. Jan 14, 2013, Allen Meadow's (Burghound.com)
This changed radically from the last time that I saw it. Initially, relatively strong reduction knocked down the nose but it required no more than 15 minutes to completely dissipate to reveal spicy but subdued plum, violet and black pinot fruit aromas. Pure, intense and mineral-inflected middle weight flavors possess good mid-palate concentration and a truly lovely mouth feel as the class of Vosne is immediately evident as the altitude of Beaux Monts as this is not nearly as ripe as any number of these '09s. The finish is focused and still relatively tight with a lovely sense of verve. Overall, this is more a hypothetical blend of 2008 and 2009 as there is more obvious acid support and while it's not as rich or opulent as many '09s, I quite like this for its purity of expression and overall harmony.
